Electromagnetic Scattering by a Homogeneous Chiral Obstacle: Scattering Relations and the Far-Field Operator

چکیده
Time-harmonic electromagnetic waves are scattered by a homogeneous chiral obstacle. The reciprocity principle, the basic scattering theorem and an optical theorem are proved. These results are used to prove that if the chirality measure of the obstacle is real, then the far-"eld operator is normal. Moreover, it is shown that the eigenvalues of the far-"eld operator are the same as the eigenvalues of Waterman's 1-matrix. Copyright ( 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

On the Scattering of Spherical Electromagnetic Waves by a Penetrable Chiral Obstacle
The problem of scattering of spherical electromagnetic waves by a bounded chiral obstacle is considered. General scattering theorems, relating the far–field patterns due to scattering of waves from a point source put in any two different locations (the reciprocity principle, the optical theorem, etc), and mixed scattering relations (relating the scattered fields due to a point source and a plan...
متن کاملElectromagnetic Scattering by a Homogeneous Chiral Obstacle: Boundary Integral Equations and Low-Chirality Approximations
Time-harmonic electromagnetic waves are scattered by a homogeneous chiral obstacle. The corresponding transmission problem is reduced to a pair of coupled integral equations over S, where S is the interface between the obstacle and the surrounding medium. This is done using a generalization of the Stratton–Chu representation that is valid for chiral media. The integral equations obtained are a ...
متن کاملElectromagnetic field calculations for a sphere illuminated by a higher-order Gaussian beam. II. Far-field scattering.
A previously developed theoretical procedure for determination of electromagnetic fields associated with the interaction of a higher-order Gaussian beam with a homogeneous spherical particle is used to investigate the effects of incident beam type on far-field scattering. Far-field scattering patterns are calculated for (0,0), (0,1), and (1,1) mode Hermite-Gaussian beams and for the helix dough...
متن کاملInverse Acoustic and Electromagnetic Scattering Theory
This paper is a survey of the inverse scattering problem for time-harmonic acoustic and electromagnetic waves at fixed frequency. We begin by a discussion of “weak scattering” and Newton-type methods for solving the inverse scattering problem for acoustic waves, including a brief discussion of Tikhonov’s method for the numerical solution of ill-posed problems. We then proceed to prove a uniquen...
متن کاملHuygens' principle and iterative methods in inverse obstacle scattering
The main purpose of this paper is to establish relations between three iterative numerical methods based on Huygen’s principle that arose almost simultaneously to solve a particular inverse problem. The inverse problem we consider in this paper is to determine the shape of an obstacle from the knowledge of the far field pattern for scattering of time-harmonic plane waves. In the case of scatter...
